WEIGHT THREE is from my show titled LANDshapes: Encompasses my travels while exploring the affected and affective nature of encounters with place through a considered and emotive material response. WEIGHT THREE was particularly inspired by Richard Serra's show in NYC at Gagosian Gallery in 2016. Richard Serra makes large scale, site-specific sculptures that are predominately made out of water proof or forged steel, for architectural, urban and landscape settings spanning the globes from Iceland to New Zealand. With the continuation of my ideas of land, it's shapes and feelings, this particular time, place and experiencing lead me to experiment with portraying the feel of weight through surface and colour.

DRAMATIC CLOUDS: I sign my paintings off as, inspired by adversity and the most Easterly Point of Australia; Byron Bay. After being diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017, undergoing extensive treatment and surgery, I lost a lot of my physical strength and confidence. February 2018 marked the start of recovery and my goal become the lighthouse walk. After time, I did make it to the lighthouse and from that day I would photograph the most easterly point. The photograph wasn't about anything else except documenting my process. Though when a friend in passing suggested the photographs were my inspiration for new work, something I hadn't thought of. At that time I didn't want my studio practise then to be about Cancer, but in reflection how could it ever not be.
